Aspiration for the Longevity of President Obama

Lotus born from the muddy politics of Windy City,
May your profound vision heal our wounded nation.
May your eloquence and power overcome false dichotomies,
The poison and scourge of our body politic.
May your mind always rest in great equanimity
Beyond the success or failure of daily plans and policies.
May you enjoy good health, long life,
And continuously radiate sanity upon this insane planet.

This aspiration is written in the style that Tibetan's use to wish for the long life of great teachers, and is an indication of how I feel about him. It is interesting to note our own feelings about our president. For many of us, he represents all that we feel is genuine and noble and right for the future of our country and this planet. The next thing we start to notice is the extent to which what he is doing in office does not reflect what we feel should be done. This also is natural because he is the president of all the people and cannot step too far beyond the common understanding. The six or so major disasters that he inherited are enough to mark any presidential term as a failure, and judged on that basis, his may very well be so. Therefore it is most important for anyone engaged in the Great Turning to take a long term view, to not put too much hope on the president solving the world's problems, to discover how to be effective in changing the story, and to have no fear of being well ahead of his official positions in the vision we express.
